Army extorts money from travellers
December 11, 2008: Troops of the Burmese Army extorted Kyat 150,000 and three hens from six villagers of Khawthlir, Rih sub-township, in Chin state on the Indo-Burma border. They were going to Mizoram in northeast India to look for jobs.
Army to penalize villages not participating in soccer tournament
December 11, 2008: The Burmese Army will organize a football match on December 14 and villages which cannot participate in the game have to pay Kyat 80,000 as penalty in Chin State, western Burma.

Gastritis afflicts Chin People
December 8, 2008: A section of Chin people are afflicted by gastritis given the irregularity of meals and lack of nutritious food, reports said. As such gastritis patients are increasing by the day and most are under medical treatment in neighbouring Mizoram state in India.
Civilians made to pay for tea seeds
November 28, 2008: In northern Chin state, Falam township, Myanmar, the authorities were collecting Kyat 1000 from every family in order to purchase tea seeds from 20 November 2008. The civilian will have to give into the demand before the end of December 2008.

Parents troubled over extra school fees

Starving Chin people in need of food
October 21, 2008: Because of the Burmese military junta's ignorance Chin people are still under famine like conditions and struggling for survival, said Mr. Manglai of Chin Public Affairs Committee (CPAC). Though they are receiving some aid from Chin people abroad, they still need help, he added.
Indo-Burma border road will be closed till December
November 21, 2008: The road that links Manipur state in northeast India and Chin state's Tonzang Township in Burma on the border will be closed by the Indian Army till the end of this year.
